The Board of Education is comprised of seven District 31 residents who are elected in non-partisan elections and serve unsalaried four-year terms. The Board is responsible for interpreting the educational needs and desires of the people and for translating them into policies and programs that are implemented by the school administration.

Board Meetings

The District 31 Board of Education meets on the second and/or fourth Thursdays of the month at 7 p.m. in the Learning Center at Field School, 2055 Landwehr Road, Northbrook. The public is invited to attend.

Please Note: The next Board of Education is scheduled for Thursday, January 21 (rescheduled from previously announced January 28th date).

Meeting dates for the 2009-2010 school year include: Thursday, October 29; Thursday, November 19; Thursday, December 17; Thursday, January 21; Thursday, February 25; Thursday, March 18; Thursday, April 15; Thursday, May 27; and Thursday, June 10.

Visitor Participation at Board of Education Meetings
Comments from personnel and the public are included on the agenda for each regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting as a means of allowing an opportunity for views to be expressed on issues and matters relating directly to West Northfield School District 31. Visitors wishing to address the Board will be recognized and asked to rise, state his/her name, legal address, and organization represented, if any, and briefly state his/her business. Such matters will be limited to five minutes of floor time for each visitor. Topics brought to the Board will be taken into consideration and the visitor will receive a response from appropriate District personnel as soon as possible.

Topics brought to the Board in open session must be of a general nature. Personnel and/or individual students cannot be discussed in open session. All topics that come to the Board must have first been brought to the attention of the superintendent using the proper chain of command including teacher to principal to director (if appropriate) to superintendent.

If more than five minutes are needed for a visitor to address the Board, the visitor needs to complete a Visitor Statement form (click link for a copy) and submit it to the superintendent at least one week prior to the scheduled Board meeting.
