Parent Information
Communication is one of District 31’s most important priorities. From newsletters and flyers, to our website and e-mail communication, to the local newspapers and cable programs, we use a variety of media to keep everyone informed about important information, news and events in our schools. Here are some of the many ways you can keep up-to-date!

District 31 Introduces Twitter!
District 31 is now testing the use of Twitter (beginning in February 2010) to see how it can assist us in improving communication with parents and the community. Join by clicking on the blue Twitter button:
Email News: Email news is sent to parents each week with highlights, dates and reminders about news and upcoming events.
Edline: District 31 is pleased to introduce Edline in the 2009-2010 school year to enhance our home-school communication and integrate 21st Century technology into our district. Families receive instructions on how to access Edline through the link on the District's website. Edline features individual teacher web pages for classes at Winkelman and Field Schools that are updated throughout the school year with class homework, news, educational web links, photos and other information. The website homepage features a link to Edline in the upper left side of the screen.
District 31 Handbook: District 31 publishes a combined District Handbook, Winkelman Handbook, Field Handbook and monthly calendar for the school year. One copy per family is available at back to school activities and through the District Office. If any families have not received their copies, please stop by the District Office. Parents will be asked to sign for the copies. An online version is also available.
Annual Report: Published once a year and mailed to each district household, this booklet includes important statistical information about the district, our schools and our state test results. It also provides a report from the Superintendent, reviewing the past year and looking ahead to plans for the coming year.
Board Briefs: This one-page newsletter summarizes highlights of each Board of Education meeting. It is available on this web site.
The Communicator: This newsletter mailed three times per year to all district residents includes information and feature articles about topics of interest, as well as school programs and events.
Weekly School Newsletters: The Winkelman Weekly and the Field School Tiger’s Roar, featured on this web site under the individual school menus, keep families up-to-date with current school information and events. Beginning in the 2009-2010 school year, the newsletters will be phased out replaced by information postings on the Edline school and teacher web pages.
Website: This web site contains a wealth of information about District 31. In addition to school information, staff directories, and Board of Education information, a variety of links are available for student help and resources. Also, check the staff directories for links to a number of web pages maintained by individual teachers who post their class requirements and homework.
Connect-Ed Messages: District 31 uses this automated phone messaging program to notify parents about special school meetings, parent teacher conferences and more. In case of weather-related school closings or other district-wide emergencies, the system will be used to contact families with pertinent information. Please make sure to notify the district office if your phone number changes during the school year to ensure that you will receive these important phone messages.
Voice Mail: The district’s automated voice mail telephone system allows parents to leave messages for teachers 24 hours a day.
Flyers: Promotional flyers are distributed in the schools and posted on our website to advertise special events such as the Superintendent’s Forums, parent information meetings, school events, and more.
Mailings: From time to time, parents can expect to receive a number of mailings each school year including postcards with registration/residency reminders, students’ class assignments, and other important notices.
Parent Information Meetings: Meeting are often scheduled to share information with parents and the community on relevant programs and topics in the district.
New Student and Visitor Information: Tours of both Winkelman and Field Schools can be arranged. The district works closely with new families to assure that the transition into a new school system will be smooth and the children will feel as comfortable as possible.
