Dr. Carrie De La Cruz is District 31's Director of Curriculum and Instruction. She received her Bachelor's degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and Doctorate in School Psychology from the University of South Florida in Tampa. She completed the Educational Leadership certificate program at Concordia University in River Forest.
Dr. De La Cruz began her educational career l5 years ago at the Northern Suburban Special Education District (NSSED) where she held a variety of positions including School Psychologist / Intervention Specialist, District Services Coach/Coordinator, and Assistive Technology Coordinator. She joined District 31 in 2013-2014 as the Interim Director of Student Services and in 2014-2015 Dr. De La Cruz took on the role of Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. De La Cruz brings to this role extensive and varied experience supporting curriculum, instruction, and assessment at NSSED and in several north shore school districts. She has expertise in data-based decision making, research-based instructional practices, use of technology to enhance classroom instruction, and effective professional development practices.
Dr. De La Cruz grew up in St. Louis and moved to the Chicagoland area after graduate school. She now lives in Park Ridge with her husband and two children, Oliver (12) and Emerson (9). During her free time, Dr. De La Cruz enjoys exploring Chicago with her family, listening to NPR, and dining on delicious meals made by her husband.
