Preschool screenings are designed to identify developmental concerns which may interfere with success in school if not treated early. This will help determine if a preschooler may benefit from special education assistance prior to enrollment in kindergarten. Preschool screenings are NOT for determining kindergarten readiness. For all questions regarding typical kindergarten enrollment, please contact the Winkelman school office at 847-729-5650.
Students who live within the District 31 boundaries can be screened in the areas of speech and language, concept development, and or motor development. Vision and hearing screenings are also available. The screenings take about one hour to complete. They are conducted by the school District’s speech clinicians, learning specialists, school psychologists and school nurses.
Parents are welcome to stay with their child throughout the screenings. District services can begin with early identification of students who may be eligible for future support. Child find activities can be initiated as early as 2-1/2 years of age, in anticipation of a child's third birthday.
Screenings for the 2019-2020 school year are between 9:00-11:00AM on the following dates:Thursday, August 29Friday, October 18Friday, December 13Friday, January 24Friday, March 13
Proof of residency will need to be completed at least a week prior to your childs schedule screening. If residency is not completed in the appropriate time frame, the screening will be cancelled and rescheduled for a future date.
