Ms. Berger, Principal of Winkelman Elementary School, began her teaching career in 2005 at Park View School Morton Grove District 70, teaching for four years in a third grade general education classroom. With an increase in the diverse population, her classroom shifted for an additional four years to a Sheltered English classroom to serve English Learners. She is very passionate about working with the growing multicultural/multilingual population and took on various leadership roles at Park View School through committees, as well as by providing English Learner coaching for general education staff.
Ms. Berger went on to pursue her administrative career at Thomas Edison School Skokie/Morton Grove District 69 by serving as Assistant Principal for the first six months and Acting Principal for the second six months of the 2014-2015 school year. In 2015, she joined our District as the Assistant Principal of Winkelman and for three years worked with our staff to develop a behavior management system through positive reinforcement, oversaw the After School Clubs program, and built strong relationships with our community at large. By volunteering at Youth Services Glenview Northbrook, she also worked with their staff to develop outreach programs for our students. In July 2018, she became Principal at Winkelman.
In 2000, Ms. Berger completed her undergraduate work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Development & Family Studies. In 2002, she continued with her education at National Louis University for a Master of Arts in Teaching and went on to receive her Certificate of Advanced Study in Curriculum & Instruction with the ESL endorsement in 2009. Ms. Berger went on to enter the doctoral program for Educational Leadership at National Louis University where she earned her administrative certification and is currently completing her dissertation.
