Early Dismissal/Extended Hour Basic Information
Winkelman students are dismissed one hour early (1:40 p.m.) on Mondays. Our teachers will utilize this early dismissal time for professional development and collaboration around student achievement. In order to best support student academic growth, Winkelman Elementary School has built several programs to support learning during Early Dismissal Mondays.
Winkelman School is excited to announce partnerships with several local businesses and after school care for the 2019-2020 school year. Our goal is to provide enrichment opportunities for our students during early dismissal time from 1:40-2:40 each Monday. While attendance during this time is optional, we understand the importance of providing quality options to best serve the families in our community.
What options are available to my child on Mondays from 1:40 p.m. - 2:40 p.m.?
- Students can go home at 1:40 p.m. utilizing their normal modes of transportation as they would on any other day of school - pick up, bike, or bus (if they are a normal bus rider).
- Students can stay for Extended Hour, our regular after school care supported enrichment time. There is no cost to participate.
- Students can participate in other enrichment activities for a parent-paid cost from one of our partner outside vendors.
If my students stay for the “extended hour,” what does that look like?
As a district, we wanted to make this “extended hour” purposeful for our students. Students who stay for the extended hour will rotate through activities such as art projects, exposure to career and college options, recreational time, technology, social emotional learning and math activities. There is no fee to participate in the “extended hour.”
