Katie Ryan (District Librarian) is excited to begin her 14th year as a school librarian! Katie began her career as the librarian for Hester Junior High and Pietrini Elementary in Franklin Park. During that time, she ran two busy school libraries and coached the Scholastic Bowl team. After five years in Franklin Park, Katie accepted the position of Middle School Librarian and Library Department chair at Brooklyn Friends School in Brooklyn, New York. During that time, Katie wore many different hats, but primarily was a 6th-grade advisor and taught library classes for students in grades four through eight. Katie has returned to her hometown of Elmhurst this school year to be closer to family. She is an avid reader of any and all book genres, loves building legos, jigsaw puzzles, and watching period dramas. Katie is thrilled to welcome and support District 31’s community of readers.
Delaney Bannon (District Library Assistant) has worked in various library settings for seven years now, and has fallen in love with the inclusive, joyous, and accessible atmosphere they create for all patrons. She started working at sixteen as a Children’s Page at the Park Ridge Public Library, and later tutored in her major and minor disciplines while earning her undergraduate degree. While finishing her Bachelor’s in English, she had a job opportunity to work as the Library and Technology Teacher at the same grammar school that she grew up going to: Saint Catherine Labouré in Glenview. She is looking forward to focusing on the library aspect of things! She is currently attending Dominican University to earn her MLIS, and is so gracious to be working in a library space this year, again. She believes there’s a place for everyone in libraries, and everyone should be able to see themselves in the books they read and have access to those books. She spends much of her free time reading, playing video games with friends and her partner, writing prose and journaling, as well as listening to music. She is thrilled to join District 31, and is looking forward to getting started!
