Kaylee Maa Wins Field Middle School Spelling Bee
Field Middle School’s 2026 Spelling Bee was held on Thursday, January 22nd, and concluded with an impressive display of academic excellence, perseverance, and passion for language. It culminated in a well-earned victory for sixth grader Kaylee Maa, who secured the championship by correctly spelling the final word, vulgar, in the 13th round. Eighth grader Sanvitha Peddi was the runner-up.
This event brought together talented spellers who demonstrated remarkable focus, resilience, and dedication after weeks of preparation. A total of 52 sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students signed up for the spelling bee in the fall, and ultimately 13 qualified as finalists for the Field School Spelling Bee. Each finalist rose to the challenge with confidence and determination, reflecting not only their individual efforts but also a shared love of learning. Spelling Bee organizers noted that the competition highlighted personal growth as much as achievement, with every speller contributing to the energy and success of the event.
With this win, Kaylee will represent Field School at the North Cook Regional Qualifier Spelling Bee on February 25 at Lincoln Hall Middle School in Lincolnwood, marking the next exciting step in her spelling journey.
Field Middle School extends sincere appreciation to the families who supported and encouraged students throughout their spelling journeys, and to the spelling bee coaches whose guidance and commitment were vital in preparing participants and organizing the event. Gratitude is also extended to the school district for providing this valuable opportunity, which continues to foster students' confidence, perseverance, and academic excellence.
