D31 PTO News — August Edition — Welcome Back to School

Who We Are: Welcome back! We hope you had a fun and relaxing summer and are enjoying these last few days before the year begins. The District 31 PTO is excited for a fantastic year ahead. Our goal is to support our wonderful teachers, enrich our students' education, and bring our families together through fun community events. We have lots of exciting new things planned this year along with some old favorites. The D31 PTO is comprised of parents just like yourself who want to ensure their children have the best possible experience in their days at District 31. We encourage you to become actively involved, to be a part of, and enjoy our activities. Involvement is one of the best ways to build relationships with teachers and staff, other parents, and your child’s classmates.

Committees To Join: Outdoor Movie Night, STEM Event, Musical and Recital Fundraisers, Kindness Day, Bingo Night, Teacher Appreciation, Glow Party, Spirit Wear, Around the World, Field Middle School Events, Book Fair ...And Many More!!!

Open Board Positions: Want to help shape the direction of the PTO this year? Join the board! We have two open positions just waiting to be filled by YOU!

  • Secretary: Attends all PTO General Meetings, takes notes, assists VP Communications when needed.

  • VP of Events: Monitor event committees planning, provide guidance and advice when necessary. You will NOT be planning or running the events.

  • How To Get Involved:

Join the PTO: If you didn’t join when you registered your child, there’s still time! Your membership helps fund great events, teacher appreciation, and school programs.

  • Attend Meetings: Our first meeting is on September 14 at 7pm in the Winkelman Commons (For our new families, that’s the lunchroom!).

  • Join a Committee: From planning our events, to helping us fundraise, to celebrating our teachers and staff, we have lots of ways to help. Without our parents to help us plan, we cannot create these great family experiences!

  • Volunteer: If planning our events is too much of a commitment, we always need parents to help on the days of our events by setting up, selling concessions, checking families in, and of course, clean up.

  • Get In the Classroom! (Winkelman Parents):

    • Be a Room Parent: Plan two class parties and put together a teacher gift at the end of the year. Remember, you must be a PTO member to be a room parent!

    • Teach Art Enrichment: Once a month, go into the classroom and teach the kids about an artist and do an activity. Don’t worry! We have all of the lesson plans and supplies you’ll need.

    1. Go to campaigns.mabelslabels.com and search for “Henry Winkelman Elementary” OR scan the QR Code.

  • Program Benefits:

    • For every purchase, Mabel’s Labels will donate 20% to the PTO.

    • As a benefit of your purchase, the PTO will regularly return your child’s items from the lost and found.
