Dear District 31 Community We recognize the ongoing concerns regarding Standards-Based Grading at Field. Thank you to those who have taken the time to share feedback through emails, phone calls, and focus groups. We have also seen the petition circulating online. The purpose of our communication today is to transparently share the timeline for the next steps in the decision-making process. We are actively exploring options and next steps based on what we are hearing. The Board of Education discussed standards-based grading at the March meeting, provided guidance to District administration on additional modifications, research, and potential paths forward, and agreed that the topic will return in June when we will present a more comprehensive update after developing a thoughtful plan for next steps, including timeline and implementation. We are continuing this process with one remaining focus group scheduled for Monday, May 4, at 5:00 p.m. in the Field Learning Center. All are welcome, and we encourage participation as we work to develop a thoughtful, student-centered plan that reflects community feedback, while also aligning with research, best practices, and District goals and initiatives as we look to the future.
