Weekly Winkelman Principal Message 2/10/25

Weekly Winkelman Principal Message 2/10/25

February 10, 2025

Dear Winkelman Parents and Guardians,

Reminder there is NO SCHOOL this Friday, February 14th and Monday, February 17th.

First, I would like to apologize for the tardiness of this message.  Even the school principal can't escape the illness bug that is going around!! With that being said, it is that season where the flu, strep, covid, etc... are spreading.  At Winkelman, we are doing our best to keep everyone safe by practicing healthy strategies.  Please read below about some of the practices to prevent illness and what to do if your student is feeling sick.

This week, we are looking forward to Parent-Teacher Conferences—an excellent opportunity to connect, collaborate, and ensure the continued success of our students. We look forward to partnering with you!

For your information: Please take a moment to review this week's Winkelman News and Updates below for information on upcoming events, including parent-teacher conferences, attendance hotline, Battle of the Books, Valentine's Day, etc.....

Take care,

Nino Alvarez, Principal
Samantha Eiseman, Assistant Principal
Erin Kranz, Assistant Principal

Sickness/Fevers:
Thank you for all that you do to help us ensure that our school is safe, happy, and healthy environment for all of our community members. We would like to share this important reminder of the following strategies to keep children, staff, and volunteers healthy:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Stay home when sick until fevers, vomiting, or diarrhea is gone for 24 hours (without use of fever reducing medications) and until symptoms have improved.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your upper shirt sleeve and dispose of tissues properly.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact, including kissing or shaking hands, or sharing items such as utensils or cups.
  • Avoid contact with sick people, especially if an infant (6 months old or less) or an adult with medical conditions.

Valentine's Day
If you choose to send valentines to school and include an item with your child's valentines, please note for the safety of our students only non-food items are allowed.

Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books (BOB) takes place on February 20. BOB is a literary trivia game open to 4th and 5th graders who want to play the game. Participants create teams, read selected books from November through February 20, and then answer questions about the books in a fun, competitive Jeopardy-style game. Winkelman has 128 kids participating on 39 teams, and all of them have been working hard to read the books. We wish them luck!
