On Friday, May 4, the Field Middle School Wind Ensemble gave its 6th consecutive performance at the Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, winning the highest award that day by being designated the 2018 Junior High/Middle School SuperState Honors Band. The panel of judges deemed their performance the best of the day from among the elite bands tapped to perform.
Every year over 130 of the best bands in Illinois submit a series of recordings in their application to play in this prestigious festival, but only 35 were invited to perform. This year Field was one of just 6 middle school bands chosen to play at the festival.
The Field Wind Ensemble performed Fugue in Bb Major by J.S. Bach, At Morning’s First Light by David Gillingham and Cajun Folk Songs by Frank Ticheli.
Being designated the Honors Band means that the Field Wind Ensemble will be invited to perform at the 2019 SuperState Band Festival without trying out and will be the featured middle school band to perform that day.
