August 5 Message from the Superintendent
August 5, 2019
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The calendar has flipped its page to August and the Back-to-School countdown has begun! It is my pleasure to officially welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year. We are excited about all the amazing changes--both inside and out--that will usher in the new year. It is truly a new beginning for students, staff and families.
Over the summer, District 31 began the next phase of facility and grounds improvements at both schools. I am pleased to share that both Field and WInkelman will be ready to welcome students back on August 22nd for the first day of school. Click here for a complete construction update. It is so wonderful to celebrate the start of the 2019-2020 school year with buildings that feel almost like new.
Communication enhancements are coming. This year, District 31 will be utilizing text messaging to more effectively communicate with families. Coupled with email, we believe text messaging will be a more efficient way to share news and updates with families. If you haven’t opted in to text messaging yet, I encourage you to text “yes” to 67587. You may have done this in prior years, but if you are not sure, please opt in again. In addition, the robocalls will now be reserved solely for school emergency concerns such as school closings, attendance, or other safety concerns. Stay tuned for details about other communication improvements.
Over the next several weeks, you will be receiving emails and updates from principals about events and programs as we get closer to the first day of school. In addition, I will be sending out additional communications to share other information, more construction updates, as well as opportunities to connect. August promises to be an exciting month. I look forward to welcoming you all on the first day of school, August 22nd.
Dr. Erin K. Murphy
