Shaton P. Wolverton Selected as Winkelman Elementary Principal

West Northfield School District 31 welcomes Shaton P. Wolverton to the community as the new principal at Winkelman Elementary School, effective July 6. Wolverton most recently served as the principal of Newport Elementary School in Beach Park, IL. She succeeds Principal Dr. Berger, who announced her resignation last month.

“District 31 is pleased to welcome Principal Wolverton to our community. Principal Wolverton brings a wealth of leadership, passion, and experience from her years in public education and previous principalships,” said Superintendent Dr. Erin Murphy. “She is passionate about providing all students with a quality, whole child education; eager to create a collaborative environment for all teachers, and to get to know the Winkelman parents, staff, and students; and ready to jump into work with our teams as we prepare for the fall.”

Principal Wolverton began her career at Kalamazoo Public School where she served for over ten years as a teacher and then assistant principal. In 2004, she took her first principalship at Evergreen Park Elementary School followed by principalships with the Round Lake Area School District (2012) and Beach Park School District (2015) where she built solid community partnerships, strongly supported students, staff, and families, and worked attentively towards school improvement.

“I am honored to have been given an opportunity to join the West Northfield School District 31 family,” said Principal Wolverton. “Through servant leadership, I am committed to helping meet the needs of our students and teachers. I thoroughly enjoy working in partnership with parents and the community and look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to school.”

Principal Wolverton has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University. She joins other new faces, Field Assistant Principal Justin Cooper and Curriculum and Instruction Director Becky Mathison, as they prepare for the 2020 – 2021 school year.
