Sick Student Next Steps, Parent Education Video, Picture Day Reminders, Upcoming Assessments, PTO, Ed Foundation, and Upcoming Events

Deat District 31 Community,

The best part of every fall is seeing our students--and this year is no different.  Whether wandering the hallways, popping into a class or being a guest reader in our remote classes, seeing our students back in school--both in the classroom or at home or in the building--has been a joy.

My Student is Sick. What Happens Next?
If your in person student is sick, please see the attached guide that explains what the next steps are in order for the student--and their siblings--to return to school.   In addition, any individual traveling to a state on the Cook County Department of Public Health Travel Quarantine List must quarantine for 14 days before returning to in-person school.

The District's first Parent Education Video about Community Resources is available here

Parent education videos will be posted regularly for the 2020 - 2021 school year in order to continue ongoing and clear communication regarding school-related procedures and resources.

Picture Day Reminders 

  • Winkelman picture day is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22 for in person students and Friday, September 25 for remote students. 
  • Field Picture Day will take place Thursday, October 1

Some important things to note about this year's School Picture Day:

  • Due to COVID, picture vendor, Color Portraits, will replace the traditional class picture with a composite picture.
  • The picture ordering program is on a prepaid basis, and payments must be made on the ordering site before picture day.  Please see the attached flyer for specific information about how to pre-order your Winkelman child's photos. Field picture ordering information will be shared in the coming weeks. 
  • Students will not be handed forms or will not be required to hand in forms, money or receipts on picture day.

Upcoming Assessments
District 31 participates in a comprehensive assessment program that assists in ensuring student progress, as well as providing needed information for differentiation and instruction for teachers. District 31 is planning to offer NWEA MAP and Aims Web for both in person and remote students. Testing will begin Monday. Please click here to find out more about the remote assessment program.   

PTO Directory Spot Resource Available Soon
The PTO’s updated Directory Spot goes live next month! Directory Spot is an app you can download on your tablet or smartphone that includes contact information for all District families (names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails) Directory Spot can also be accessed from a website. The app is usually an exclusive benefit of PTO membership, but this year, it is available to all families for free since PTO membership fees have been waived for the school year.  If you do not want any or all of your information shared in the Directory, please email PTO member Debbie Silverman at debsilv1015@gmail.com by September 30.

PTO Fundraiser Tuesday, September 22
Join the PTO for their first fundraising event of the year on Tuesday, September 22 at Grill House!

When you order lunch or dinner from Grill House on Tuesday 20% of your bill will go to support District 31. Please mention the District 31 PTO when you order.

Ed Foundation Message
