Board of Education Meeting, Travel Reminder, Self Certification, Conferences, Parent Education Video, and More

September 25, 2020

Dear District 31 Community,

This week we are thrilled to celebrate the amazing news that Field Middle School was named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School.  Truly in this challenging time, it is recognition like this that reminds us of how powerful the collective community- Field, Winkelman, teachers and staff, administration, community, and students--is as we partner together to spotlight our small but mighty district.  Read more about this honor here

Board of Education Meeting
Last night was the District 31 Board of Education meeting.  Thank you to everyone who participated remotely.  You can learn more about what happened at this Board of Education meeting here.  During the Board of Education meeting school re-opening dashboards were updated and reviewed.  We will be working on putting them in a visible place on the District website for easy monitoring by our community.  In the meantime, you can view them here: Updated West Northfield School District 31 Dashboard.

Travel Reminders
We have received a number of questions regarding upcoming holiday travel. District 31 is following the recommendations of the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) and the Illinois Department of Public Health recommendations and will require a 14-day self-quarantine for in-person students who travel to high-risk states.  Click here for more information.

Self Certification
We appreciate all the parents who are so diligent with their self-certification every day.  Many of you have expressed appreciation for the daily text/email reminder.  Unfortunately, right now we are unable to configure this system to “skip” week days when there is no school. We are looking for options but in the meantime if there is no school, please ignore the text or emails!

My Student is Sick. What Happens Next?
If your in person student is sick, please see the attached guide that explains what the next steps are in order for the student--and their siblings--to return to school.

Conferences are Coming
In the next couple of weeks you will be receiving information about parent teacher conferences that will give sign-up directions and attendance details.  Sign-ups will occur through Skyward and conferences will be virtual through Zoom. Conferences will be on October 15 and October 19 for both schools. Sign up information will be available soon.

Parent Education Video
In the next installment of the parent education video series,  I get the opportunity to talk about the different people who are available in District 31 to answer questions and provide support.  Click here to access the growing video library for parents.
