Dear District 31 Community,
Welcome to October! As the weather changes and the leaves begin to change, attention is turning to fall activities. However, with fall comes the cold and flu season. We appreciate the partnership of our families as they keep students home if ANY member of their household shows symptoms until they can confirm that it is not COVID related. By being cautious and following health protocols and travel advisories, we are demonstrating the commitment of our collective community to protect everyone and be as safe as possible during this time. Also, as a reminder, fall ushers in the state deadline for turning in health vaccines forms.
Yesterday, the District announced our free lunch program which will begin on Monday, October 5. We are very excited to partner with Quest and the US Department of Agriculture to be able to provide free breakfast and lunch 7 days a week for all of our students! Learn more about the free meal program here. If you have additional questions about the program, please view the Free Food Service Program FAQ.
We are excited to offer free lunch to every student at West Northfield School District 31 thanks to the Summer Food Service Program from the USDA, a federally funded program. Covid related adaptations to the program makes it possible for District 31 to temporarily participate through December 31, 2020, (although there is a possibility that this may be extended). During our eligibility, there is no charge for school meals – breakfasts and lunches, provided by Quest Food Management Services. Please visit our webpage to see the FAQ, menus, meal planners, etc!
If you are a family with students learning remotely and would like to participate, please fill out the following form to indicate if you prefer to pick up on Monday morning or would like our bus partner to drop off at your address.

Parent Education Video
In the next installment of the parent education video series, Dr. Janine Gruhn, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, presents an overview of student services in District 31. Click here to access the growing video library for parents.
Special Meeting of the Board of Education
There will be a brief, special meeting of the Board of Education on Monday, October 5 at 6:30 p.m. Agenda and viewing information can be found here.
Message from the PTO
The PTO's updated Directory Spot will be available next week! Directory Spot is an app you can download on your tablet or smartphone that includes contact information for all District families (names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails). Directory Spot can also be accessed from your computer at www.directoryspot.net. Access to Directory Spot is usually an exclusive benefit of PTO membership, but this year, it is available to all families for free since PTO membership fees have been waived for the school year.
New Users: You will receive an email with directions on how to access the Directory Spot app. The email will come directly from Directory Spot, so please check your spam folders.
Current Users: There is no additional action you need to take to view the updated data. Simply log in as you have before and the new data will be available to view.
If you have any questions about Directory Spot, please email PTO member Debbie Silverman at firstname.lastname@example.org.
