Adaptive Pause for Field and Winkelman
Dear District 31 Community,
A number of concerns were discussed at last night’s Special Board of Education Meeting and though it was a very difficult decision, the recommendation to take an adaptive pause was unanimously supported by the board. The Board considered many different factors when making this difficult decision, including feedback from the Cook County Department of Public Health, the current status of “substantial community transmission” even in our local communities, and operational challenges related to staffing and subbing. An adaptive pause requires all students to move to virtual learning. If you would like to view this Board Meeting, the recording is available here. The updated dashboard is available here.
The District 31 adaptive pause information for the schools is below:
- FIELD will begin November 16 (last day of in-person instruction will be Friday, November 13).
- The adaptive pause for WINKELMAN will begin November 30 (last day of in-person instruction will be Friday, November 20).
Right now the adaptive pause is scheduled to continue to winter break with a tentative return to school on Tuesday, January 5. However, the District 31 Board will be meeting in December to review this pause and will confirm or extend that date at that time.
November 23 and 24 will be used as planning days for teachers and there will be no student attendance (virtually or in-person). Field and Winkelman’s adaptive pause schedules differ due to the District’s continuing staffing/substitute challenges.
DISTRICT 31 PRINCIPALS WILL BE COMMUNICATING WITH FAMILIES FREQUENTLY OVER THE COMING DAYS WITH SCHEDULE INFORMATION AND OTHER DETAILS RELATED TO THE TRANSITION.
As we move all students to an adaptive pause, we are pleased to share that the free meal program will continue. The District will continue to send and share different information as we navigate this transition, including a soon-to-be-scheduled virtual informational session on subbing in District 31 and how you can access the free meal program.
District 31 will be joining the District 27, 28, 30, and 34 School Communities who announced an adaptive pause yesterday, although we have modified the start and end times of that pause to meet the specific needs of our community.
The district will continue to monitor Cook County and Northfield Township metrics and staffing levels to determine the best path moving forward.
The school principals will email specific school information and schedules shortly. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at email@example.com.
Thank you for your patience and trust as we continue to navigate these challenging times together. As a community, we will navigate through this pause with the intent of returning to in-person instruction for the families who choose that option.
