Upcoming Holidays, Board of Education Meeting Recap, School Calendar, Sub Search, and More

November 20, 2020

Dear District 31 Parents/Guardians,

Never has a Thanksgiving season seemed so challenging and full of the unknown. With an adaptive pause for schools, rising numbers, and going into Tier 3 mitigations, it is indeed a challenging season.  However, never before has it been so important to find thankfulness and gratitude in this season. I am so thankful for our dedicated teachers and this community of parents who have shown patience, kindness and support as we navigate this ever changing year. I am so grateful that we have been able to offer two platforms for our families to choose from - in person and remote. And, I am thankful that we were able to have in-person instruction for fourteen weeks--and that we have the safety measures and procedures in place to continue to keep our students safe when we return to in-person instruction after the winter holidays.

Thank you to those who listened to last night’s Board of Education meeting. You can find the recording to the meeting and the Board Brief here.

Typically in December we begin to get inquiries about the school calendar for the next school year. However, with all of the unknowns and the ever evolving current year calendar, we don’t yet have the information to formally approve a 2021-2022 calendar.  But, we understand that families often need certain information to help plan. Thus, we are releasing a tentative framework of just the days we know with a great deal of certainty, including winter and spring break for 2021-2022.  You can find that here.

We will not be having families complete the self-certification during the December adaptive pause. However, we do ask ALL families to please communicate with the office if there is a COVID positive case. Although we will not be communicating with our school community about positive cases during the adaptive pause, it is helpful for information for monitoring local health conditions. We also want to make sure we can support our students and families during this time.

We are continuing to actively recruit for our substitute program. It is essential that we have a robust and active sub pool before we open schools. You can review the sub presentation from the PTO meeting here.  If you haven’t started the process to get a state of Illinois sub license, please click here or contact Tina Nielsen at or 847-313-4417 for assistance and questions.

As we enter the holiday season, please consider supporting our PTO during the PTO Book Fair and our Education Foundation during the 1st Annual Virtually Holiday Boutique.
