In Person Instruction Return Date, Updated Quarantine Guidelines, Board of Education Meeting, Free Meal Program, and More

Dear District 31 Parents/ Guardians
It is hard to believe that we are midway through this adaptive pause and we are looking forward to reopening schools in 2021. Over the last few weeks, we have actively been recruiting subs and have continued to grow our substitute pool. We have gone from 3 to 17 subs (and still growing). We thank all of the parents who have stepped up to fill this very important role. We ask that you continue to spread the word as ensuring a robust and active sub pool is critical to the success of keeping schools open. Learn more at www.district31.net/becomeasub. We have also entered into a partnership with Raden Wellness to provide reliable and faster Covid-19 test results for our staff with the hope that we can reduce the length of staff absences caused by delays in receiving test results.
It has always been the intention of the Board of Education to move back to in-person opportunities as quickly and as safely as possible. While we actively worked to make this happen the week of January 4, we now recognize that we won’t have the staff availability to provide quality in person instruction, even by utilizing subs. This was especially true for our youngest students. However, by applying the updated CDC quarantine guidelines and utilizing our new partnership with Raden Wellness for staff testing, we believe we can open for in-person instruction on Monday, January 11.
Next week, the schools will finalize the timeline and process for students changing platforms and will send out communications. Principals will send out additional communication about supply pickups and any other needed information.
Thank you for all of your patience and support. We look forward to returning to our dual platform model and we are working to ensure that we can do it safely for students and staff.
What are the new CDC Quarantine Guidelines? How long will I need to quarantine if we travel over the winter break?
- Quarantine time is 10 days (reduced from 14 days) IF not displaying any symptoms
- However, an individual may be released from quarantine (or come back to school) after 7 days IF they have a negative PCR Covid-19 test. The test to get the negative result cannot occur before day 5 of quarantine. If a student returns after 7 days, the written negative Covid test result will need to be submitted to the nurse to confirm that it was a PCR test and the date the sample was collected.
- Do you need help figuring out what day your child should return to school after traveling? Please contact me, your principal or your nurse and we will be happy to talk through what is needed.
- If you are traveling, it is helpful for us to have the information. We encourage you to continue to fill out this form so we can plan for smooth transitions for each of our students.
- Please note that quarantine and travel guidance are continually evolving and as a result our decisions and guidance may also need to adapt and change.
Board of Education Meeting
The Board of Education will hold their regular meeting on Thursday, December 17 at 7 p.m. You can find the agendas, viewing links and public comment form here. All are welcome to attend. One of the positive outcomes of the last months is the level of community engagement that has happened as our Board meetings have moved to a virtual setting.
Free Meal Program During Adaptive Pause
The free meal program continues for ALL students during the District 31 adaptive pause. Details on how to access the program during the adaptive pause are listed below.
Families are invited to pick up a week's worth of breakfast and lunch at Glenbrook South High School on Mondays between 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Families may stop by anytime during the designated pick up window; you do not need to sign up for the program.
Meal drop off is also available. If you would like your meals delivered to your home by district buses each Monday, please call 847-313-4416.
