Happy New Year!, Self Certification, Travel Guidance, and Upcoming Events

January 1, 2020

Dear District 31 Community,

Welcome to 2021!  We are looking forward to this new year and all the promise it brings.  We are happy to  welcome back  all of our students on Tuesday, January 5 in a remote setting.  On Monday, January 11, we are excited to resume in person instruction. District 31 is proud of all the work our staff and parents have done over the tumultuous months to provide opportunities for in-person and remote instruction.  We look forward to continuing this good work of our collective community as we move forward into the new year.

Self Certification
Self certification is an important part of our safety protocols.  Although the students will not be in-person from January 5-8, we are asking that if your child will be resuming in person instruction on January 11, that you begin the self-certification process this week.  Please note that the second question has been adjusted to ask not only if you have been exposed to someone with Covid-19, but also whether you have traveled over the prior 14 days.  By beginning this routine on January 5, we will be able to better ensure a smooth transition to in person learning.

Travel Guidance Update
As a reminder, in-person instruction will open on Monday, January 11. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) published a clarification on their updated quarantine guidance. The new language is available on our website at or by clicking here. Please note that the 7-day quarantine with a negative test option is only available for adults (NOT STUDENTS), and the test must be PCR test.

If you need any help figuring out what day your child should return to school after traveling or have any other quarantine questions, please contact me, your principal or your nurse and we will be happy to talk through what is needed.

Here is a handy chart of some current information for returning to school:

We traveled over winter break.  When can my student return to in-person school?

My child is  ill and/or showing a Covid symptom.  How can they return to school?

My child was in close contact with a person who has tested positive for Covid.  When can they come back to school?

You must quarantine for a minimum of ten days following travel per the CDC.

In order for your child to return to school in person on January 11, you must be home from your travels on Thursday, December 31.

Please contact the school offices if you have any questions about dates so we can assist with timing and live streaming if they are unable to return on January 11.

There are three ways to return to school.

  1. A doctor’s note providing an alternative diagnosis.
  2. A negative Covid test (PCR)
  3. After 10 days of quarantine if they are no longer showing symptoms.

Your child can come back to school after ten days, provided they are showing no symptoms.
