Board of Education Meeting January 21, Safety Reminders, and Upcoming Events

January 15, 2020

Dear District 31 Community,

It was such a joy to see children in the hallway and classrooms of Winkelman and Field School. Despite all of the safety protocols and mitigation strategies, we celebrate the ability to safely have school, in whatever format we need to!

After an exhausting start to the school year,  we are very excited to share some good news from this week. The first District 31 staff members have begun receiving their COVID-19 vaccines. On Wednesday Field School Nurse Tania Gastilium and Winkelman School Nurse Ruth Ann Nally received their first round of the COVID-19 vaccine (pictured below). We remain hopeful that the rest of our staff will be offered the opportunity to receive the vaccine in the next month and we are working closely with the Cook County Department of Public Health and our regional office of Education to make that happen. I know I am looking forward to the opportunity to receive the vaccine myself.

Board of Education Meeting
The Board of Education will hold their regular meeting on Thursday, January 21 at 7 p.m.  You can find the agendas, viewing links and public comment form here. All are welcome to attend. One of the positive outcomes of the last months is the level of community engagement that has happened as our Board meetings have moved to a virtual setting.

Safety Reminders
District 31 has been so proud of our ability to have a full day, in-person option since August. Although we took a pause over winter break, we are confident that we will be able to continue successfully moving forward. However, we do need your help.

  • Please self certify your child every school day.
  • Please keep your child AND any sibling home if they don’t feel well and if they have any of the Covid symptoms.  Please see the chart for information for returning to school.
  • Please adhere to the travel guidance. As the Cook County Department of Public Health evolves their guidance, so will District 31. Although the travel guidance is really geared for any extended/overnight trips out of the home, we ask families to be safe and follow safety protocols and mitigation strategies for all outings.  Please contact your nurse or principal if you have questions about travel.
  • Consider being a sub!  Subs continue to be a need and our recruitment efforts are ongoing. Please click here for more information.
