COVID-19 Vaccine info, 2021-22 Registration, Winkelman Nurse, Board of Education Meeting, Little Wildcats Preschool Transition, and Events

January 22, 2020

Dear District 31 Community,

In a week that was highlighted by Martin Luther King Jr Day and a Presidential Inauguration it only seems appropriate to reflect on the words of Amanda Gorman spoken this week.  One phrase particularly resonated with me:

But one thing is certain:

If we merge mercy with might, and might with right, then love becomes our legacy and change, our children’s birthright.

After a challenging year on so many levels, we are hopeful that there is light coming our way.

Currently we are working diligently with the Cook County Department of Public Health and our Regional Office of Education to secure vaccines for our teachers and staff.  Knowing that there are so many questions about the vaccines in general, we are scheduling a virtual parent information night so you can get your questions answered. More information should be out early next week.

Board of Education Meeting

Little Wildcats Preschool Transition
We have been so privileged to have the Little Wildcat program at Winkelman school, run collaboratively with NSSED, for the last five plus years in order to ensure a robust and child centered program for our littlest learners.  As we move forward into the next school year, we will be continuing our partnership with NSSED. However, District 31 will assume management of the Little Wildcats program while NSSED partners with us to provide coaching and all related services to our preschool students. By moving in this direction our families and students will benefit from being part of the Winkelman school community which will help facilitate smoother inclusion opportunities, create a stronger link to district curriculum, and continue making developmentally appropriate growth while still having the wonderful experiences and support from our NSSED partners.Registration for the Little Wildcat Program will begin February 3, 2021. Find both additional information, eligibility requirements, and tuition rates at or contact Meghan Swift at mswift@district with questions.
