Dear District 31 Community,
This Wednesday was the 100th day of school! Back in the summer (or even last spring), the thought of 100 days of school seemed near impossible in the wake of the global pandemic. This seems like a wonderful opportunity to again let everyone know how grateful I am for your support through this unprecedented time. As a team, we have made school safe for in person learning, while also conquering the unknown landscape of remote learning. This achievement is the result of the collective work of every single person in our district.
Despite the great unknown...and the exhaustion and anxiety that came with it--we have made it 100 days. I am extraordinarily proud to be a part of this community.

One of the many challenges of this school year was navigating the ever changing school calendar. At the November Board of Education meeting, the Board agreed on a calendar framework consisting of definite holidays and breaks. District 31 tries to align with District 225 for major holidays and breaks in order to support families that have students in both districts. You can see that framework here. However, despite some of the unknowns, we are now ready to draft and finalize the 2021-2022 school calendar.
Each year District 31 forms a committee composed of administration, teachers, parents, and Board of Education members to help form the school calendar for the next school year. An important focus in that committee meeting is the feedback from parents and staff. The goal is to create a school calendar that best meets the needs of all in our school community, as well as conforms to Illinois Board of Education calendar requirements. Please consider giving your feedback and suggestions regarding the upcoming school calendar by filling out a brief survey here by February 21.
Students (4th-12th), parents, and teachers are asked to share their thoughts on the important elements of our school effectiveness. Please complete the survey at https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ by April 2, 2021.
Take a screenshot or photo of your completed survey and send it to email@example.com for a chance to win a gift card from a local restaurant. Winners will be announced every two weeks for a $25 gift card and a final grand prize $100 gift card winner will be announced April 5.
