Return to School Guidance, 5Essentials Survey, School Calendar, Summer Programs, Registration, and Upcoming Events

March 26, 2021

Dear District 31 Community,

Welcome back to the last few months of the 2020-2021 school year!  We hope it was a restful spring break and that everyone is returning with renewed energy as we move towards the summer months.

As we return to school on Monday, I urge our families to review and follow the travel guidance below for a safe return. I appreciate your help and support in keeping our community safe.   I also ask parents to take the 5 Essential Survey---we are in the last week and we would love to get as much feedback as possible.  If we don’t have at least 20% responses at each school, we will not get a report!

Travel/Return to School Guidance
The Cook County Department of Public Health/City of Chicago have updated their map, and there have been a number of changes. Several states that were yellow, are now orange.  We encourage you to look at the map.

Please note that children need to be tested if they travel to an orange state in order to be admitted back to school OR quarantine for ten days.

  • If you travel to a yellow state, there are no travel restrictions or quarantining requirements. This map is updated every two weeks by the Chicago Department of Public Health. The last map update took place March 22.
  • If you travel to an orange state, you must quarantine for 10 days once you arrive home or follow one of the testing options below. Please note that PCR testing is the preferred and most reliable method.
    • All unvaccinated individuals (including children) traveling from a state on the Orange list are directed to obtain a Covid test result no more than 72 hours prior to arrival in suburban Cook County. If unable to meet the testing requirements while out of state, they can be tested after they arrive home and quarantine until they receive a negative result.
    • All unvaccinated individuals  traveling less than 24 hours to a state on the Orange list should be tested after they arrive home and quarantine until they receive a negative test result.

5Essentials Survey -LAST WEEK!
There is still time to enter for a chance to win a $100 gift card! Students (4th-12th), parents, and teachers are asked to share their thoughts on the important elements of our school effectiveness. Please complete the survey at by April 2, 2021.

Take a screenshot or photo of your completed survey and send it to for a chance to win a gift card from a local restaurant. Winners will be announced every two weeks for a $25 gift card and a final grand prize $100 gift card winner will be announced April 5.  Right now our response rate for Field is 17% and 20% for Winkelman---we appreciate you taking the time and we hope to get the input of even more of our families. We need a minimum of 20% of our parents to participate in order to get the responses.
