Planning for Next Fall, Registration, Parent Education Series, Board of Education, Walk the School Day, Summer Programming, and Upcoming Events

April 16, 2021

Dear District 31 Community,

Though we are all focused on getting through our final seven weeks of the 2020 - 2021 school year, the District Administrative Team is also actively planning for next year. The District is currently planning for full, daily IN-PERSON programming for all students.  These plans are based on guidelines from the CCDPH and ISBE that advocate that, by following safety guidelines, schools should fully reopen for in-person programming in the fall.

Per ISBE, remote instruction will continue to be offered for students who have a medical need (or live with someone high risk). This risk/need must be documented by a doctor note. In order to help District 31 determine how to plan for any remote instruction, we are asking families that intend to request remote instruction for the 2021 - 2022 school year to fill out this form by May 6. Please note that the doctor’s note is NOT needed by May 6. However, when we contact you, we will walk you through what is needed and the timeline.  Thank you for your help as we plan for next year.

This is also a reminder that the school registration process for next school year is underway. We encourage all of our families to register as soon as possible, as it assists with planning and preparation. Registration fees can be paid at a later date if needed.  Also, any bus registration needs to be done by July 1.  Please note that next year, per IDPH/CCDPH guidelines, there may be up to 50 students on a specific route. If you have any questions regarding 2021-2022 remote learning or registration, please contact your school principal.

Upcoming Parent Education Series Presentation: Fostering Independence at Home: Executive Functioning
Join District 31 on Monday, April 26  at 7 p.m. on Zoom to learn more about executive function skills and how they impact student performance across all subject areas in school. Dr. Georgia Bozeday will present an overview of current research from neuroscience describing the impact of the 21st Century influences on students today. She will focus on recent findings related to media use and learning. Dr. Bozeday will also provide recommendations for parents as they work with children at home on these concerns.

Additionally, this presentation will provide parents with practical strategies from the field of Executive Functions to help them guide students at home. Discussion will primarily include strategies for organization and time-management. A zoom link will be shared at View flyer here.

Board of Education Meeting
Last night during the April Regular Meeting of the Board of Education, Board of Education members Bob Resis and Nancy Hammer ended their terms as Board Members and were honored for their volunteerism and civic engagement over the past few years. Bob served on the Board for eight years. Nancy served on the Board for four years. We celebrate their many accomplishments and thank them both for their service to the community, our schools, and our children. Watch a recording of their recognition and find the Board Brief here.

The Board of Education will hold an additional meeting on Wednesday, April 28 at 8 p.m. for the annual reorganization meeting.
