Remote Instruction Request, Registration, Parent Education Series, Upcoming Board Meeting, Reminder to Self Certify, Walk the School Day, Spring Fling, Summer Enrichment, and Upcoming Events

April 23, 2021

Dear District 31 Community,

It is hard to believe there are only 28 days of school left! While we are not back to “normal” as we once knew it, we are starting to see glimpses of a new normal with our first track meets this week and  classroom visits by our 2nd grade teacher Ms. Chlebek reading her new book to Winkelman students.  We also had beautiful tables delivered to Field this week by GBS senior and Field alum, Justin Hamelin, that he made as part of earning his Eagle Scout badge. We are not back to “normal”, but we continue to thrive and prosper and I am so proud of where we are as the District 31 Community.

Please find important information below regarding next school year, a wonderful parent education opportunity, Board Meeting information, and upcoming events you do not want to miss!

Remote Instruction Request
Per ISBE, remote instruction will continue to be offered for students who have a medical need (or live with someone high risk). This risk/need must be documented by a doctor note. In order to help District 31 determine how to plan for any remote instruction, we are asking families that intend to request remote instruction for the 2021 - 2022 school year to fill out this form by May 6. Please note that the doctor’s note is NOT needed by May 6. However, when we contact you, we will walk you through what is needed and the timeline.  Thank you for your help as we plan for next year.

2021 - 2022 Registration
The school registration process for next school year is underway. We encourage all of our families to register as soon as possible, as it assists with planning and preparation. Registration fees can be paid at a later date if needed.  Also, any bus registration needs to be done by July 1. Please note that next year, per IDPH/CCDPH guidelines, there may be up to 50 students on a specific route. Learn more at

Upcoming Parent Education Series Presentation: Fostering Independence at Home: Executive Functioning
Join District 31 on Monday, April 26  at 7 p.m. on Zoom to learn more about executive function skills and how they impact student performance across all subject areas in school. Discussion will primarily include strategies for organization and time-management. The Zoom Link is available here. View flyer here.

Board of Education Meeting
The Board of Education will hold a meeting on Wednesday, April 28 at 8 p.m. for the annual reorganization meeting. You can find the agendas, viewing links and public comment form here. All are welcome to attend.

Reminder: Self Certify Every Morning!
We appreciate all the parents who are so diligent with their self-certification every day.  Unfortunately, we still have a handful of parents who regularly drop students off without completing the self certification. This creates additional work for office staff every morning that slows down other important school processes. Here is a helpful video to walk you through how to self certify each morning.
