Board Member Appreciation Week, Vaccine Clinic, Calendar Survey, Winter Weather, Meal Kits Available, Parent Education Opportunities, COVID-19 Update, Subs Needed, and Upcoming Events
November 19, 2021
Dear District 31 Community,
Happy Board Member Appreciation week! This week we thank our District 31 School Board members for their hard work and incredible commitment to the students, staff and families of District 31. These elected officials (who are ultimately volunteers!) epitomize civic responsibility and action through their participation and leadership of our district. We thank Dr. Allison Slade (president), Laura Greenberg (vice president), Daphne Frank (secretary), Melissa Choo Valentinas, Jeffrey Steres, Dr. Maria Vasilopoulos, and Meredith Estes for their commitment to our community. Learn more about our Board members here.
We continue to celebrate our students and our community as we hear news of students receiving the first dose of their COVID-19 vaccine! It has been exciting to see so many pictures and to have students share about their appointments over the last several weeks! A COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic for students 5 - 11 will take place Monday, November 22 in the Winkelman gymnasium. You can sign up here (walk-ins are welcome).
Thank you to our school librarians, Karrie Fisher and Kristie Cerniglia, for challenging our school community (parents, staff, and students) to read 20,000 minutes this week to commemorate Family Reading Week! Families are still invited to log their reading minutes from the week here.
Remember, next week is a two-day week with Thanksgiving break beginning Wednesday. Have a wonderful weekend!
Dr. Erin K. Murphy
Superintendent of Schools
Your feedback is needed as we develop our 2022-2023 school calendar. Thank you for taking the time to complete this brief survey. We welcome all feedback and suggestions. Please complete the survey by Tuesday, November 22.
COVID-19 Vaccine Opportunities
A clinic in Winkelman gym will be available on Monday, November 22. You can sign up here (walk-ins welcome).
Several local pharmacies are also offering appointments. Please use the links below to schedule a convenient time to get vaccinated.
Students are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their SECOND shot. We ask that families send a picture/copy of the vaccine card after the second shot to the school nurse. Once students are two weeks past their second shot, they will no longer participate in the weekly Shield Illinois COVID-19 testing.
Winter Weather Reminders
In the event of extreme weather or cold, students will participate in a traditional "snow day" (no remote learning) and the day will be made up at the end of the school year. However, if multiple school closures occur over the school year, it is up to the discretion of the Superintendent to transition from "snow days" to remote learning days. In the event that we have reached a threshold to consider remote learning days over "snow days," notification will be sent to families and additional information concerning remote learning will be sent out from each school.
