Vaccination Information, Parent Education Opportunities, Curriculum and Instruction Update, and Upcoming Events
December 3, 2021
Dear District 31 Community,
Welcome to December! It has been exciting to hear so many students talking about their vaccinations!
Please remember to send a picture/ copy of your child’s vaccine card to the school nurse after they receive their second shot. Students are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second shot.
We were also notified today that vaccinated individuals may continue to opt into the weekly Shield Testing. If you would like your child to continue with the weekly testing once they become fully vaccinated or if they are currently fully vaccinated, please email your school nurse. Unless we hear from you, we will assume that your vaccinated student will not be participating in weekly Shield testing. Unvaccinated student participation in the testing program will continue without interruption.
Shield Illinois has changed the third party company that will be providing testing services for District 31. Beginning next week, Passport Health will be supporting our testing process instead of Visit Healthcare. However, due to the change in companies, combined with a decreased number of students participating in testing (because they are nearing fully vaccinated status), the following changes will be made to the testing program.
- Winkelman’s testing date will now be WEDNESDAY morning and be managed by Passport Health.
- The Winkelman PM (afternoon) Little Wildcat students will be tested on Tuesday afternoon. Samples will be collected by District 31 nurses and the samples will be stored until the Wednesday morning collection by Passport Health. At that point they will be processed.
- Field students will continue to be tested on Tuesday afternoon. Samples will be collected by District 31 nurses and the samples will be stored until the Wednesday morning collection by Passport Health. At that point they will be brought over to Winkelman and be processed.
Whether a student is testing on Tuesday or Wednesday, all District 31 tests will be processed together and brought to the lab on Wednesday. We anticipate results on Thursday or Friday of every week.
Finally, there was an issue processing our Shield tests this week and a good number of tests were never returned with results. I have been in contact with Shield Illinois and while we were able to get most of our test results returned after the initial delay, there are some that are still not appearing. Shield apologies for this challenge and we are hopeful that our work with our new third party provider will prevent this issue in the future.
As a reminder, we are asking every family to be diligent and monitor students for Covid symptoms. While we recognize that there are lots of colds and viruses circulating, we want to take every precaution to ensure students are healthy when they are sent to school. Please also notify school staff immediately if a student tests positive, even if it is in the evening or on the weekend. We also continue to encourage families to pursue vaccinations, and let the school nurses know when a student receives their second Covid vaccine shot so we can keep our records up to date.

Curriculum and Instruction Update
District 31 believes in having differentiated and rigorous education for all students. The purpose of the Advanced Learning Program (ALP) is to provide students who demonstrate readiness an enriched and accelerated learning program in the areas of English language arts and math. The program is available in grades 4-8. Students qualify for the program via a combination of scores including an achievement score (MAP), an ability score (CogAT) and teacher feedback (SIGS).
