Dear District 31 Community,

It was an exciting week in District 31! The week began with Career Day at Field, which was an exciting day where students learned about a diverse selection of career opportunities. Thank you to the parents and community members who came to school to share about their careers. The fun continued at Winkelman yesterday where students celebrated Earth Day with outdoor activities, guest readers sharing Earth Day themed picture books, and other fun. Second grade teacher, Ms. Chlebek, read the book she wrote, Protector of the Ocean, to the entire grade level. I enjoyed serving as both a career day presenter at Field and a guest reader at Winkelman!

Another exciting event took place this week at the Board of Education Meeting. Congratulations to the teachers who received tenure. We are so thankful for your service to District 31!

Daily Health Reminder Update
Attendance at school certifies your child is free of Covid symptoms and, if unvaccinated, has complied with travel guidance and has not been a close contact to anyone with Covid. This daily reminder will be discontinued, but we ask that families continue to follow all health guidelines.

Final Week of Website Survey!
Next week is the final week to participate in the District 31 website survey. As part of our strategic plan, West Northfield School District 31 is redesigning our websites to better engage our community. As a first step of the redesign process, we would like your feedback regarding your website usage. Please fill out the survey here by Friday, April 29. Thank you for your time!

Curriculum and Instruction Update
In District 31, systems are in place to ensure students are taught at a level that stretches their thinking and promotes growth, perseverance, and engagement. In grades K-3, the classroom teachers provide math enrichment to students based upon student interest, district assessment data, and classroom performance.Beginning in fourth grade, students are eligible for pull-out math enrichment through the District 31 Advanced Learning Program (ALP). Enrichment provides students the ability to explore grade-level content at greater levels of cognitive depth as well as to grow their reasoning and strategic thinking by solving non-routine problems. The ALP expands to include accelerated curriculum courses for fifth through eighth graders. Learn more about the D31 ALP and/or attend the parent information meeting on May 23 at 7 p.m. (information to come). When enjoying math with students at home, parents are encouraged to play strategy games and share activities that build number sense. Click here for a list of awesome websites and resources guaranteed to challenge your children at home.
