Welcome from the PTC and Ed Foundation
Dear Parents of District 31,
We are glad to welcome you back to school. We wanted to take a moment to give you some information about the two parent organizations in District 31: the Parent/Teacher organization (PTC) and the Education Foundation (Ed Foundation). Both organizations will be hosting a Parents Night Out on September 28th at North Branch from 7:30-9:30 pm. We hope to see you there!
What is the PTC and who can be a Member?
The PTC does their work within the school, bringing enrichment activities, building community in the district and showing appreciation to our teachers and staff. There are several volunteers who make up the Executive Board and an even greater number of parent volunteers who run the various programs. Every parent can participate in any PTC activities; however, the membership fee helps fund programs and provides access to our Student Directory App.
PTC Programs & Fundraising
The PTC’s primary objective is to provide our schools with funds, programs, resources, and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every child and benefit the school. While we have a number of free and low-cost events for families, we also must fundraise to meet these important objectives. Here are a few programs that we sponsor and/or support: First Day Coffee Truck, Annual Fall Book Fair, Holiday Store, Mom/Son Night Out, Daddy/Daughter Dance, Family Bingo Night, Art Fair, Science Fair, Taste of District 31, Teacher Appreciation, Band events, Field Day, and various programs throughout the year.
What is the Education Foundation and who can be a Member?
The Ed Foundation’s mission is to fund initiatives that will equip our district with the best educational environment and make improvements to facilities and educational programming. Foundation initiatives benefit both Winkleman and Field Schools. We are a parent-led, 501(c)(3) education foundation, and over the last 5 years, the Ed Foundation has provided grants totaling more than $720,000. These grants included the implementation of 1:1 (iPads) for every child in District 31; Wi-Fi and Internet infrastructure updates; the STEAM initiative that brought maker space labs to Winkelman and Field Schools; and a direct teacher grant program. Parent Volunteers serve on an Executive Board while committee members implement the fundraisers.
Ed Foundation Programs & Fundraising
The Ed Foundation seeks corporate and private sponsors throughout the year. Traditionally, the Ed Foundation hosts a bi-annual 5K fun run and a bi-annual Boosterthon kids fun run. Additionally, the Ed Foundation hosts an Annual Gala, which includes casino gaming and silent and live auctions. One hundred percent of the proceeds go directly to District 31.
Become a Volunteer….Why YOU should get involved!
District 31 is a small, but busy community. This is where you come in! We need your help, and so do our children. There are volunteer roles for everyone, regardless of your time commitments inside and outside the home. Volunteers are specifically needed in the classroom, assisting or organizing an event, and fundraising. Not time is too small. Please reach out to Meredith Estes, President of the PTC, or Darrin Stern, President of the Ed Foundation, if you are interested in learning more.
See you on the 28th!

Ways to Get Involved in September
- September 4th: First PTC General Meeting and Parent Volunteer Training, Winkelman Commons, 7:00 pm
Join the PTC for the first general meeting, where we will discuss and vote on the annual budget and learn about upcoming events. Also, any parents interested in volunteering at Winkelman MUST ATTEND this training session to learn what is required to volunteer at the school.
- September 12th: First Ed Foundation General Meeting and Committee Formation, School District Office (Field Middle School), 7:30 pm
Join the Ed Foundation for our kick-off meeting. We will hold open board seat elections, form working committees, review past years funding, review our next capital campaign and our program schedule. This is a great time to get involved and make an impact at our schools.
