October 9 Message from Dr. April Miller

October 9, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are all enjoying this fantastic weather and look forward to a three-day weekend! Due to Columbus Day, we do not have school on Monday, October 12.

Parent- Teacher Conferences
Conferences are October 15 and 19, and all conferences will be held remotely. Please click here for more information on how to schedule a conference with your student’s teachers. Registration for conferences closes on October 14.

Join the PTO at North Branch on October 13 for their second fundraising event. When you order lunch or dinner from North Branch on Tuesday, 15% of your bill will go to support District 31.

New Bell Schedule
Starting October 13, we will begin dismissing In Person students at 3:02 and we will continue our staggered dismissal time to ensure social distancing. Although we hope to change our bus arrival time in the afternoon to Field, it may not be possible. Therefore, students who ride the bus will be supervised by staff until their bus arrives. All other students will exit the building at the new dismissal time.

By moving to this new early dismissal time, e-School students will now have the opportunity to meet with their teachers during daily afternoon office hours beginning at 3:10pm. Office hours will conclude each day at 3:40.

Please note, the only change in the daily schedule is passing period time and dismissal time. This new schedule does NOT reduce the amount of academic time. Thank you again for your input so we can continue to provide the safest and most effective learning environment for all our students. Please click here for the new bell schedule.

Health Records Reminder
Health records for all 6th grade students as well as students new to the district are due October 15. Students are required to have health records submitted by October 15 or starting October 16, they will not be able to attend school. Please contact our nurse, Mrs. Gastelum with any questions. 847-313-4454 or

Picture retakes
If your student was unable to have their picture taken during our first picture day, retakes are scheduled for November 10. Retakes will be available for all students. More information will be shared closer to November 10.

District Free Meals Program
All students will have access to a free breakfast and free lunch each day AND over the weekend. Please click here for our new Free Meals Program for West Northfield School District 31. Please note: the Free Meals Program has changed our daily meal options. In addition to free breakfast and lunch, students have the option to take home meals each Friday as well. Tables are set up at each exit for students to “grab and go” meals for the weekend.

For our In Person students, please remind them that for everyone’s safety, they must keep their mask on at all times, and although they may remove it to eat and drink, they must put their mask back on immediately after eating and drinking. Also, please remind students that although they are allowed to remove their mask when they are at recess or during mask breaks outside, they must maintain at least 6 feet of social distance. We appreciate your support!
